EEA Nationals
If you are a national of an EEA country (European Union plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) you can enter the UK as a student with a minimum of formality, you do not require entry clearance or a visa. You may be asked to show evidence that you have been accepted on to a course, and that you have sufficient funds to support yourself whilst in the UK. You will also need your passport.
Non EEA Nationals
If you are not from the EEA (European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) you will have to meet certain immigration requirements. Nationals from many countries are required to obtain an entry visa or certificate before coming to the UK. They can do this at the British Embassy, High Commission or Consulate. Nationals from countries where an entry visa is not compulsory such as some Commonwealth countries should also consider applying for entry clearance before leaving home. To come to the UK as a student you will have to produce the following documents
- A passport
- Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) number
- Evidence of your ability to meet, without working in the UK, the costs of your course, accommodation and maintenance and to support any dependants accompanying you.
When you arrive in the UK, an immigration officer may question you, so take all relevant documents in your hand luggage.

This document reflects our understanding of Queensbury College London duties as a licensed sponsor and your responsibilities if you are granted a student visa under Tier 4 of the Points Based Immigration System.
This document is written for International students enrolled or planning to enrol at Queensbury College.
Your responsibilities
- At enrolment, you must present a valid passport with a valid student visa for the course you intend to study.
- You must understand and comply with the conditions of your visa.
You must be studying full-time. Part time study is not allowed.
You must always ensure that you apply to extend your visa at least 2 months before your visa expires
- Register promptly with the police if required to do so.
- You must not work more than 20 hrs per week (or as indicated in your ‘leave to remain’ entitlement) which is permitted by your visa during term time. Tier 4 students can work full-time only during the holidays
- You must comply with the attendance monitoring systems that Queensbury College London has in place.
- You must comply will all policies set by Queensbury College London
- You must inform Queensbury College London of any change in your personal details for example change of address, change of telephone number etc.
- Under Tier 4, an education institution is considered your “sponsor” to study in the UK. If you got a visa under Tier 4 to study at Queensbury College, Queensbury College is your “sponsor”. If you change your mind and want to study at another institution, you must report any intention to change your sponsor to the UKBA immediately. You must email the UKBA at MigrantReporting@ukba.gsi.gov.uk to tell them of your plans and ask for their permission. You can start the new course before you get their permission, but you must be aware that they may refuse the permission to change. Students who applied on or after the 5th October 2009 must apply for a new visa if they wish to change their sponsor.

Queensbury College London - duties as a licensed sponsor
The college has a license to sponsor students, which is granted by the UKBA. This license imposes duties upon the college .Queensbury College London must comply with the conditions set by the UKBA. As a licensed sponsor we must:
Keep a copy of your passport, visa and UK ID card. If you get a new passport, visa or ID card while you are at the Queensbury College London, you must go to the admin department so we can take a copy.
Keep an up-to-date record of your contact details
Report to the UKBA
If you fail to enrol on time
If you are absent from the college without permission for a prescribed period
If Queensbury College is no longer your licensed sponsor
If your circumstances change, for example, if your course of study changes or becomes shorter or longer
If we have evidence that you are breaking the conditions of your visa.
Students are advised to check that they have full up-to-date information prior to taking any action that will affect their status in the UK.
Tier 4 is being introduced gradually between March 2009 and February 2010 by the UKBA, the policies and procedures are subject to change.
